Programme paves way for visually impaired to showcase talents in creative industries

KUCHING, March 12: The Citra Rasa Yayasan Orang Buta Malaysia Programme for visually impaired individuals will allow them to showcase their talents in creative industries and express their feelings and emotions as part of the World Braille Day celebration on Jan 4, 2023.

In a statement, Malaysian Professional Centre or Balai Ikhtisas Malaysia (BIM) president Dr Wilmot Sasindran Dass explained that the programme aims to provide exposure to professionals, especially those involved in BIM with The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia (CILTM).

Wilmot also shared that those who are participating in this activity have the goal of successfully transferring knowledge to the OKU (individuals with disabilities) community.


“The programme allows BIM members and the OKU community to express their emotions and skills with confidence and communicate with the public while instilling pure values and love, besides empowering various professional careers in Malaysia. BIM always pledges to support local communities, especially under privilege groups,” he said.

Wilmot further revealed that the programme will be attended by BIM professionals, partners, and visually impaired participants from around the Klang Valley.

“This collaboration can not only foster professional concern for the OKU communities, which are components of a civilised society as proposed through ‘Malaysia Madani’ but also promotes the six principles of sustainability, well-being, creativity, respect, confidence, and generosity.

“This principles, could be effectively practiced by participants in such programmes,” he opined.

“Together with the visually impaired participants, BIM hopes to hear their expressions and share firsthand.

“In this way, BIM can suggest improvements to existing systems or provide innovation to the implementation of programmes or facilities for this group.”

Women in Logistics and Transport Malaysia vice chairperson Associate Professor Dr Jessica Ong Hai Liaw in the same statement announced that in conjunction with the International Women’s Day celebration themed “Embrace Equity” to showcase caring communities, said that the programme aims to empower and provide opportunities for participants to showcase their talents, share their experiences, and enhance career advancement opportunities for people with disabilities.

The programme is BIM in collaboration with the Malaysian Association for the Blind Foundation (YOBM), The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Malaysia (CILTM), the Association of Malaysian Optometrists, IKK & Redland Aviation Services. ā€” DayakDaily
