KUCHING, Nov 12: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and wife Datin Amar Juma’aini Tuanku Bujang today attended a luncheon at King’s Curry held in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration.
The luncheon was hosted by senior lawyer Shankar Ram Asnani, who is also president of the Sri Maha Mariamman temple committee, and his wife, Karishma Shankar.
Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Dr and Sim Kui Hian; Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Sarawak Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah; Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng; and Federation of Chinese Associations of Sarawak president Dato Richard Wee were also present.
During the luncheon, Abang Johari and other guests also lit a candle as a symbolic gesture of the celebration.
Speaking during the ceremony, Shankar expressed his gratitude to Abang Johari, especially for giving the opportunity to Sarawakian Indians to gain employment in the Sarawak government and agencies, along with a host of other opportunities.
He said the Premier also provided substantial help by giving a grant of RM2.3 million for the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Kuching. ā DayakDaily
