KUCHING, March 30: Samarahan has the potential to become a hub for various research centres, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
In his speech during the Berbuka Puasa Madani Programme held at Al-Mutaqqin Mosque in Kota Samarahan today, Abang Johari said Kota Samarahan has two development clusters: education and healthcare.
He said the education cluster consists of Unimas, UiTM, Institute of Teacher Education Tun Abdul Razak Campus, and a few other technical colleges, while the healthcare cluster consists of Unimas Teaching Hospital, Kota Samarahan Heart Centre, and the upcoming cancer centre.
He added that the Sarawak government also built a centre for infectious disease research in Kota Samarahan.
According to him, the centre is also used for tropical disease research studies.
“All this would benefit not only Sarawak but also Malaysia as a whole, and probably our neighbours in Indonesia too,” he said. — DayakDaily
