KUCHING, March 28: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg believes that the Central Database Hub (Padu) should only collect relevant financial information and avoid gathering excessive unrelated data.

Abang Johari stated that the database system lacked justification and that Sarawakians are eager to understand why Padu is requesting so much personal information when they register for the government system.

“If extensive information is disclosed without relevance to financial matters, we see no justification for acquiring such in-depth details,” he made the remarks to reporters after attending the State Level Nuzul Al-Quran Celebration at the Al-Muttaqin Mosque here last night.

In addition, he opined that the Personal Data Protection Act should establish limits to protect personal information so that they align with constitutional provisions that protect freedom and liberty.

According to Abang Johari, individuals have the right to withhold certain personal information, particularly those unrelated to income and financial circumstances.

“You have the right not to disclose your personal information on your wellbeing. However, if it is related to income and your economic situation, then of course the data is more relevant,” he explained.

Furthermore, the Premier stated that the Federal Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli will meet with Sarawak government representatives next week to discuss Padu registration.

However, Abang Johari remarked that he has not received detailed information about the meeting, other than State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki confirming that the federal minister is coming to Sarawak for the matter.

“It depends on when the delegation from the Ministry of Economy will come to Sarawak, because YB Rafizi wants to know more why we asked for Padu to be postponed.

“We also want to obtain other information about the system, especially concerning privacy,” he added. — DayakDaily
