KUCHING, March 31: Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has suggested that a wakaq gazebo (garden house) could be built at the Samariang Muslim Cemetery for visitors.

“When family members come to visit the graves, they can rest at the gazebo and use the facilities that are provided,” he said.

He welcome Muslims and non-Muslims alike who are keen to donate such facilities to approach the management of the cemetery.

Abang Johari said this in his speech before officiating at the RM5.6 million Samariang Muslim Cemetery Complex at Jalan Sultan Tengah today.

He explained that he wanted the cemetery to be managed in a contemporary way, with plenty of lighting so as to lighten the ambience there.

“We can use solar lights as it is cheaper to operate and at the same time, we must maintain these lighting.

He urged young Muslims who are experts, and successful in the field of solar power to help manage and maintain these lighting facilities.

“Let us thank Sarawak State Mosque Welfare Trust Board (LAKMNS) for providing the best facilities for the Muslim community,” he said.

Also present were Minister of Tourism, the Creative Industry and Performing Arts, Dato Sri Abdul Rahman Karim Hamzah, Sarawak State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, LAKMNS executive chairman Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai. — DayakDaily
