The Premier was aware that his son’s presence at those events has led to speculations about his potential investment.

“My son was put in an awkward situation and became the centre of attention. Now for him to ‘walk’ (go) around is difficult. I think it is unfair.

“No, he is not the investor,” he said after officiating at the inauguration ceremony for Taiyo Yuden (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd new building at Sama Jaya High Tech Park here today.

This came following Business Times’ report on Oct 11 that MYAirline was believed to be close to securing a new investor, potentially Abang Abdillah given his recent presence at multiple meetings and townhalls with MYAirline. This potential investment was seen as a lifeline for the struggling low-cost carrier.

Abang Johari emphasised that the Sarawak government will focus on the acquisition of MASWings.

On the latest development on this acquisition, he replied: “It is still under negotiation, focusing on finalising the details (for the takeover).”

When pressed further on whether this acquisition was related to his son, Abang Johari firmly responded: “It is not related to my son or MYAirline.”
