BETONG, Oct 8: There are certain parties who want to claim authority over carbon matters from Sarawak, says Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He disclosed this when speaking during the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Special Convention for Betong Zone at Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan here today.
“When it comes to carbon, there are people who want to take over our power on carbon matters.
“Let me be honest; I will defend that this carbon matter is a Sarawak right because it has been inserted under the Sarawak Land Code.
“Thus, any decision on carbon stored inside our land is our right,” he said.
Abang Johari, who is also Sarawak’s Minister of Energy and Environment Sustainability (MEESty) and PBB president, further mentioned that he has sent a legal team to look into the legislation of Commonwealth countries for the same reason.
“If they touch our law and our rights, we (Sarawak) will fight back. That is our right. We in PBB must not be timid.
“Just like when we fought Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) in the past. We were on the right track.
“Although I am not a lawyer, I also read the law, and we will continue to defend our rights,” he added. — DayakDaily
