KUCHING, Sept 2: The Bintulu-Jepak Bridge that is expected to be completed in 2023 will not only shorten the distance between Bintulu town and the airport, but the cable-stayed bridge spanning the Kuala Kemena River will be another landmark and attraction for Bintulu.

Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the bridge project is ongoing and it is expected to be completed in December 2023.

“It is a cable-stayed bridge and this infrastructure will become an attraction for Bintulu town,” he highlighted during a press conference after visiting the new SK Ulu Segan in Kemena, Bintulu yesterday (Sept 1).

According to a news report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Abang Johari and entourage had also visited the bridge project site yesterday.

It is understood that the bridge will shorten the travel distance between Bintulu town and airport by 6.4km.

It will also connect all the Growth Node areas along the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) such as Samalaju Industrial Park, Matadeng Industrial Park and Mukah Smart City.

Overall, the bridge is expected to improve and elevate the socio-economic status of people in Bintulu.

The bridge project was among the matters discussed during the State Development Coordination Committee meeting which Abang Johari chaired at a hotel in Bintulu earlier yesterday.

The meeting was held to discuss the status of various development projects implemented in Bintulu Division including those related to utilities, telecommunications and infrastructures.

Deputies Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian, state cabinet ministers, State Secretary Dato Sri Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and State Finance Secretary Dato Sri Dr Wan Lizozman Wan Omar were among those present. — DayakDaily
