KUCHING, Oct 5: A fault in the 11KV high voltage switchgear at the 3rd Mile substation has caused an outage in 3rd Mile Kuching, on Wednesday (Oct 4).
According to a press release issued today by Sarawak Energy Berhad (Sarawak Energy), after receiving a report at 2.42pm, Sarawak Energy’s operations and retail arm, Syarikat SESCO Berhad (SESCO), immediately dispatched a technical team to identify the faults and begin restoration efforts.
Sarawak Energy stated that power was restored to the majority of affected areas via load transfer at 5pm, and that all affected areas had full power restored at 9.32pm, after faulty equipment was repaired.
“Sarawak Energy regional manager (Western Region) Nazry Abdul Latip expressed regret for the faults which caused the outages and seeks the public’s understanding on this matter as the team works to swiftly normalise the system,” read the press release.
“As the damage was extensive, we needed time to repair the damage to normalise our system. Due to unsuitable site conditions, we were unable to deploy mobile genset to provide temporary supply.
“We want to assure the public that our technical teams are on 24/7 standby, committed to immediate action on any outage reports. Depending on the extent of the damage, we may require more time for full restoration,” said Nazry.
