Political pundit: GPS-PBB ‘solid as granite’, development to flourish in Jepak

Dato Peter Minos

KUCHING, Nov 5: The other parties did not nominate a candidate for the Jepak by-election not due to fear of being defeated but rather because they recognised that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS)-Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is a strong and unshakeable force, similar to a solid granite mountain, says political pundit Dato Peter Minos.

GPS candidate Iskandar Turkee successfully defended Jepak for the ruling coalition in the by-election with a majority of 8,784 in a three-cornered fight. He garnered a total of 9,638 votes.

Meanwhile, Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate Stevenson Joseph Sumbang and Chieng Lea Phing from Sarawak People’s Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) polled 854 and 431 votes, respectively.

“GPS-PBB is happy knowing that the people are with them. Both PBK and Aspirasi knew that they would lose from day one. The people of Jepak could not be bothered by them,” said Minos in a statement.

He continued by stating that the people perceive GPS-PBB as a strong and reputable political party led by a dedicated leader who has consistently prioritised the growth and development of Sarawak.

“As for PBK, it said it was fighting for ‘democracy’, but the people saw it was in the fight to ‘kacau’ (disturb). As for Aspirasi, it was in for a fishing expedition and fun.

“The other parties did not enter the race for fear of being slaughtered. They knew that GPS-PBB is like a solid granite mountain; you cannot disturb it, just cannot,” he asserted.

Minos further remarked that the people had spoken and that development in Jepak would continue. — DayakDaily
