Police urged to cancel traffic summonses issued to vehicles at Lorong Liu Shan Bang 4B in early March

KUCHING, April 21: Democratic Action Party (DAP) Sarawak member Michael Kong has urged the police to cancel all traffic summonses that were issued to vehicles parked along Lorong Liu Shan Bang 4B during the period when the ‘yellow line’ and ‘no parking’ signs were absent.

According to Kong, members of the public had complained about receiving traffic summons for parking illegally at the area even though it was not appropriately marked with signs like a yellow line and a no parking sign to warn motorists against parking there.

“This area has been a parking spot for people here for many years prior to the confusion. The council (Padawan Municipal Council or MPP) had re-tarred the lane but omitted from repainting the parking boxes.

“I had assisted some of the complainants to appeal against the traffic summonses,” he said in a statement today.

Kong, who is also special assistant to Chong Chieng Jen, added that DAP Sarawak has also highlighted the matter to the authorities and urged them to immediately repaint the parking boxes and road direction arrows to prevent confusion by the traffic police.

“After close to one month, MPP has finally taken action to redraw the parking boxes at Lorong Liu Shan Bang 4B.

“But I believe there are many more people who have previously been issued the summons unreasonably,” he said.

With the parking boxes now being redrawn by MPP, Kong pointed out that all traffic summons issued during that time should be cancelled immediately. — DayakDaily
