MIRI, Jan 11: Police in Miri have seized over 5kg of ecstasy and methamphetamine with an estimated street value of RM397,941.50, in a raid conducted on Jan 9.

The operations led to the arrest of two local men suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.

Miri District Police Chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu revealed that the arrests were made during a raid carried out by a joint team comprising officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department at the Sarawak Contingent Police Headquarters and the District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND), based at Miri District Police Headquarters.

The operation targeted a house in the Krokop area of Miri.

During the raid, officers discovered and confiscated 1,579.6 grammes of ecstasy and 4,193 grammes of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of RM397,941.50.

A vehicle valued at approximately RM8,000 was also seized.

The suspects, aged 41 and 50, have been remanded for seven days to assist with the investigation, which is being conducted under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

If convicted, the accused face the death penalty or, if spared, life imprisonment with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane.

The Miri District Police have called on the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected drug trafficking activities to the nearest police station, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in tackling the drug menace. — DayakDaily
