Police seize contraband worth RM421,000

MIRI, March 15: Miri 12th Batalion General Operations Force (GOF) personnel seized more than RM421,000 worth of smuggled liquor and beer during a series of integrated operations on Wednesday morning in Permyjaya and Senadin.

The operation was held from 10.55am until 12.45pm and also involved nine officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Three premises were raided, in Desa Indah, Jalan Maigold in Senadin and Quadruplex Permyjaya respectively.


A totak of 2,074 cartons of contraband worth RM421,150 inclusive of unpaid taxes were found inside these raided premises, disclosed Miri GOF commanding officer Supt Tan Hiap Seng.

During the raids, the team also arrested three local men aged 30, 43 and 46 to facilitate investigations.

“One of the shop owners tried to bribe our men during the operation process,” he said.

The team also seized cash amounting to RM3,500 from the respective shops.

The case is being investigated under the Customs Act 1967 and Section 17(b) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Act 2009. — DayakDaily
