Police: Possible riot at Sibu Court results in temporary court order against 8 individuals

KUCHING, Oct 16: The police have received a court order to prevent eight individuals from attending a possible riot at Sibu Court tomorrow (Oct 17).

Sarawak Commissioner of Police (CP) Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said following information that a possible riot would be held at the venue, the Court has issued a temporary restraining order for seven days from Oct 17 to 23, 2023.


This is in accordance with Section 98 of the Criminal Procedure Code, a temporary restraining order aimed at preventing gatherings during situations of disorder.

The eight individuals are Mathew Mudai Umpi, Jonas Ling Lee King, Andrew Lau Chii Chiong, Alistair Lau Chi Kiat, Chua Yieng Hui, Lawrence Clement Ahsay, Napoleon Lawik, and Alim@Giovanni Adlim Mideh.

“If the named individuals disobey the order, they are committing an offence that can be punished under Section 188 of the Penal Code, and if found guilty, they can be sentenced to prison for up to one month or a fine of up to RM400 or both.

“And if the disobedience causes danger to life or may cause riots, these individuals are to be punished with imprisonment of up to six months or a fine of up to RM2,000 or both,” he told a press conference at Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) here today. — DayakDaily
