LAWAS, June 20: Police here arrested a man yesterday for allegedly attacking a fireman in Kampung Belipat, Jalan Punang here.
Lawas Police chief DSP Roslan Leman, when contacted to confirm the arrest, said that the 30-year-old suspect allegedly attacked the fireman on Saturday (June 19) during a house blaze at around 3.18pm.
On that day, a team of seven firefighters from Lawas Fire Station was deployed to the scene upon receiving a distress call about the fire.
While firefighters tried to douse the fire, the suspect allegedly hit the victim on the head.
The footage image was captured by one of the firefighter’s video camera (Go Pro) attached to his helmet as he battled the blaze that day.
Bystanders managed to restrain the man who was the owner of the house from further attacking the fireman.
“The suspect in the attack incident has been detained by the police from the Lawas Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and will be remanded for four days starting from Sunday to assist a police probe over the incident,” he said.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the house on fire was rented out, while the owner is living nearby.
“The suspect had burst into rage and was angry at the response time of the fire crew to the scene,” added Roslan.
The case will be investigated under Section 332/186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a civil servant’s duties, attempted murder and injuring a civil servant. ā DayakDaily
