Fireman killed in car crash with lorry on Jalan Miri-Lutong

MIRI, Aug 28: A fireman was killed while one of his two passengers sustained injuries when the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident with a lorry at a traffic intersection KM8 Pujut 7 Jalan Miri-Lutong on Saturday morning.

According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Superintendent Alexson Naga Chabu, the victim has been identified as Mohd Azwanizam Abdullah, aged 42-years-old.

He was attached with the Batu Niah Fire station.


ā€œMohd Azwanizam was killed on the spot while his friend who was in the front passenger seat, aged 43, suffered bodily injuries and another seated in the backseat, aged 19, was unharmed,ā€ said Supt Alexson.

Supt Alexson said preliminary investigations showed the lorry was heading towards the city centre from Lutong, while the Proton Waja was coming from Permyjaya to Piasau when the accident occurred at 4.30am.

The lorry driver was reportedly unharmed in the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. ā€” DayakDaily
