Police nab 24yo man, seize 7.45kg cannabis worth RM23,095 in pre-dawn raid at Jalan Green

KUCHING, July 3: A 24-year-old local man was arrested by the police in a pre-dawn raid at Naim Commercial Centre, Jalan Green here on Wednesday (July 2), following the seizure of 7,450 grammes (7.45kg) of suspected cannabis valued at RM23,095.

The raid, conducted at around 1.10am by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Kuching District Police Headquarters (IPD Kuching), was carried out under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment and not less than 12 strokes of the cane, if convicted.

According to Kuching District Police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the suspect tested negative for drugs and does not have any prior criminal record related to drug offences.

“The suspect has been remanded for five days until July 7 to facilitate further investigation,” he said in a statement today.

Police also confiscated a Kia Picanto believed to be linked to the drug trafficking operation, and it is now being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

Alexson urged the public to play an active role in combating drug abuse and trafficking by reporting any suspicious activities in their surroundings to the nearest police station so that such harmful activities do not take root in the society. — DayakDaily
