KUCHING, May 5: The police have appealed to the public not to share any information related to roadblock locations on social media.

Sarawak Commissioner of Police Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the sharing of such information would affect the police carrying out their duties.

He said this after a Facebook post that displayed information related to the list of roadblock locations which will be carried out by the police went viral recently.

“The post advised the public not to use the roads listed, especially users who do not have a driver’s licence.

“Thus, I urge and remind everyone to use social media prudently and not share information related to the operations and assignments of the police,” he said in a recorded video shared through WhatsApp today.

Azman added that the irresponsible sharing of such information is an offense under Section 223 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, where those convicted can face a maximum fine of RM50,000, or imprisonment of up to one year, or both.

He also said an investigation could be carried out under the Penal Code and Official Secrets Act 1972 that is punishable with imprisonment for a term not less than one year but not exceeding seven years. — DayakDaily
