Sarawakian Dr Lulie Melling elected as Academy of Sciences Malaysia’s fellow

KUCHING, May 5: Sarawak Tropical Peat Research Institute (Tropi) director Datu Dr Lulie Melling has been elected as a fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM).

She is the second Sarawak-based Sarawakian elected as a fellow in the history of ASM with the last one being 25 years ago.


ASM is one of Malaysia’s most prestigious recognitions in science and technology.

“This Fellowship offers tremendous opportunities for networking, collaboration and engagement in science-policy dialogues.

“With this, I wish to express my deepest gratitude to all of you for the support, trust, encouragement and belief provided throughout my peat journey.

“May the Lord continue to shower his blessings upon us all. Thank you again for everything,” she said via WhatsApp today.

Dr Lulie was among six new fellows elected into Biological, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Discipline this year.

The other five were Prof Dr Lim Phaik Eem, Prof Dr Rosfarizan Mohamad, Prof Dr Tang Thean Hock, Prof Dr Wong Mui Yun and Prof Dr Zulqarnain Mohamed.

Just last month, Dr Lulie was also reelected as the president of Malaysian Peat Society (MPS) for the 2023-2025 term. — DayakDaily
