KUCHING, May 18: The police are investigating the death of a man who was found unresponsive in a car with a woman in front of a convenience store in Batu Kawa New Township here, yesterday (May 17).
Padawan deputy police chief DSP Lim Jaw Shyong said a team of police and Batu Lintang firefighters were despatched to the scene around 6pm after they were alerted about the unconscious duo by members of the public.
āUpon arrival, the team found that the carās engine was still on and the man was leaning against the the car window in the driverās seat while the woman was slumped on his thigh.
āThe firefighters then broke the carās rear window to unlock the doors and brought them out,ā Lim said a statement today.
The man, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene while the woman, 38, was taken to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.
Further investigation of the car revealed eight cans of beer and no other suspicious object.
According to Lim, a witness saw the deceased exiting his car around 4.30pm and walking unsteadily towards a nearby supermarket, believed to be under the influence of alcohol. He was also seen falling down several times. However, upon reaching the entrance, the deceased did not enter the supermarket but instead returned to his car.
A check on closed circuit television (CCTV) footage found that the deceased first arrived at the scene around 3.10pm and the woman appeared on the scene around 3.19pm, exiting an unidentified car and entering the deceasedās car.
The case is classified as sudden death following no signs of foul play at the scene. It is still under investigation pending a postmortem to determine the cause of death. ā DayakDaily
