KUCHING, Feb 24: Padawan District Police Chief Supt Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad has clarified that the so-called ‘gunshots’ overheard in a recent viral video depicting a riot in Jalan Matang/Batu Kawa were caused by firecrackers.

The first video shows a vehicle being driven at high speed while the second video seems to show a fight between several individuals seen from a distance.

“Following our previous statement, there are still many netizens who assume that the sounds in the video came from gunshots.

“Investigations conducted and a statement from a witness confirmed that the sounds in question stemmed from firecrackers, which were set off by one of the two parties involved in the brawl,” he said in a statement today.

Abang Zainal reminded the public to not speculate without facts as this could jeopardise the public’s peace and police investigation.

“Any individuals involved in the case will be brought to court,” he added. — DayakDaily
