Police cuff suspects less than 8 hours after armed robbery

MIRI, Dec 19: Two locals suspected to be involved in a convenience store robbery during the wee hours today along the North Yu Seng road have been detained by police, less than eight hours after allegedly committing the robbery.

Several items including RM120 cash believed to be taken from the convenience store, and a knife were confisticated.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah disclosed that the suspects, aged 33 and 35, were picked up along Jalan Haji Lampan by a Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team led by Inspector Fredly Juing.

The arrest was made around 9.30am after the police received a tip-off on their whereabouts.

In the 1.30am robbery, the image of the two suspects were caught by the shop’s closed circuit television (CCTV).

The CCTV footage showed that the suspects had posed as customers before demanding cash from the female cashier.

One of the suspects pointed a sharp object at the female cashier, instructing her to open the cash register.

About RM600 cash as well as mobile phone reload cards amounting to RM1,525 was taken in the heist.

The female cashier was unharmed in the incident.

The manhunt for the suspects began after a police report was lodged.

With these arrests, police believe they solved two robbery cases involving the suspects.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 and 397 of the Penal Code for robbery.

Both suspects are currently under police custody for questioning. — DayakDaily
