SIBU, March 16: One of three brothers who are suspected to be involved in the attempted murder of a 40-year-old man at a cafe in Paradom was arrested this afternoon.

The suspect, 47, was arrested at 2.10pm in Sungai Bidut.

Sibu district police chief, ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit revealed today the police are still searching for the suspect’s two brothers who have previous criminal records for criminal activities.

He added that the arrested suspect had started the commotion at the cafe in Paradom at 4.35pm on Sunday.

“The victim was fishing at the cafe when the suspect attacked him. He then picked up a piece of wood and hit the suspect,” he revealed.

As the suspect was being hit by the victim, friends of the suspect pulled him away and they managed to escape. However, the suspect later returned to the location with his two brothers, one of whom fired a shotgun at the victim’s face.

The victim was also injured in his right shoulder. Photos of the victim’s pellet-riddled face have been circulated widely on social media.

Stanley appealed to the public for information on the other two brothers aged 43 and 46. He also advised the public to exercise caution as one of the suspects is armed and dangerous.

On the arrested suspect, Stanley revealed he was likely high on drugs when he attacked the victim.

The victim is receiving treatment for his injuries at a private medical specialist centre and his condition is said to be stable.
