2 men on motorcycle allegedly hit cop at Jalan Padungan roadblock

KUCHING, Oct 5: The police have confirmed receiving a report on Oct 4 regarding an incident in which two men riding a motorcycle hit a police officer while police were conducting a roadblock on Jalan Padungan here.

In a statement, Kuching district police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said this followed a 39-second video recorded by a member of the public, which has since gone viral on social media.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, which carries a prison sentence of up to 20 years.

The case is also being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties, which carries a prison sentence of up to two years, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both.

In addition, police are investigating the case under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a prison sentence of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

“Members of the public are advised not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the incident.

“Anyone with information about the incident is urged to assist the investigation by contacting the Kuching District Police Headquarters at 082-244444 or investigating officer Insp Aliff at 013-3115854,” he said. — DayakDaily
