Plantation worker detained for drug possession

MIRI, July 27:  A plantation worker has been detained during a raid held on Friday night for alleged involvement in drug possession.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah when contacted said the suspect, an Indonesian, 47, is currently being placed under police custody to assist the police in the case.


He said during the raid held on Friday, a team of Miri District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division led by Inspector Mohamed Basheer A. G. Sulaiman had seized drugs believed to be Methamphetamine weighing 33.69 grammes.

The seized drugs worth RM4,379.70 at street value.

He further disclosed that the seizure was made at an estate workers’ quarters along Jalan Miri-Bintulu at Niah, around 7.30pm.

The drugs were found inside the suspect’s bedroom at the workers’ quarters in the estate.

Initial investigation revealed that the suspect has no prior record in drug related offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 39A(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. — DayakDaily
