KUCHING, Sept 17: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sarawak hoped that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) state government will be trustworthy and fair in distributing the wealth arising from the natural resources from the state to the people especially the rural folks.
PKR Sarawak deputy chairman Abang Zulkifli Abang Engkeh in a statement said the Sarawak government ought to be honest in revealing to the public the amount of outstanding State Sales Tax (SST) including the amount of late payment and interests to be paid by Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) to Sarawak.
“Oil and gas resources in Sarawak is the biggest contributor to the country which needs to be used to develop rural areas including building roads, clean and treated water supply, schools and high speed Internet connection network throughout Sarawak.
“The people of Sarawak cannot be taken for granted by the rhetoric of GPS by promising billions of ringgit for the development of Sarawak.
“PKR Sarawak is urging the GPS state government to be trustworthy in fulfilling the promises which has been made to the people by implementing the developing projects and focusing on the development of rural areas,” he said in a statement today.
Abang Zulkifli said he gathered that the state government is expected to receive a cheque for the unpaid SST by Petronas this evening.
Thus, he added PKR Sarawak hoped that the money will be utilised for the development of the state including bringing more development through agriculture for the people in the rural areas of Sarawak. — DayakDaily
