KUCHING, Feb 27: Sarawak Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy chairman Abun Sui Anyit hopes that the additional RM20 billion allocated for the Pan Borneo Highway’s Sabah section and the 1,000-km Sarawak-Sabah Link Road will also be channelled towards building or repairing roads in Sarawak’s interior, such as in Belaga District.
Abun Sui explained that this is to prepare the Belaga District to progress alongside Nusantara which will become Indonesia’s new capital.
“It is also easier to prepare for Belaga to be appointed as the 13th Division of Sarawak during the period of this unity government,” he said, according to a statement.
He said that as a Sarawakian, he is also pleased because the RM5.6 billion allocated to Sarawak from Malaysia’s revised Budget 2023 is the highest amount allocated to Sarawak thus far.
According to Abun Sui, the majority of lay people are satisfied with the 2023 Budget.
On Feb 24, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also the Finance Minister, tabled Malaysia Madani Budget 2023 in the Dewan Rakyat.
Sarawak received RM5.6 billion in Budget 2023, up from RM4.67 billion in 2022, while Sabah received RM6.5 billion, up from RM5.16 billion in the previous budget.
Among the initiatives stated in the budget is the allocation of RM20 billion to continue and expedite the completion of the Pan Borneo Highway’s Sabah section and the Sarawak-Sabah Link Road spanning a distance of 1,000km. — DayakDaily
