KUCHING, Feb 12: The RM7.4 billion Sarawak-Sabah Link Road (SSLR) Phase Two project is expected to take at least five years to complete, with geographical factors and extensive engineering requirements posing potential challenges to its progress.
Federal Minister of Works (KKR), Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, stated that despite finalising the agreement with the contractor by the end of 2024, on-site work would only begin two to three months later.
“We have finalised the agreement with the contractor by the end of 2024, and they will start on-site in two to three months,” he was quoted saying by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) during a press conference at the Malaysia Public Works Strategic Collaboration Programme held at a local resort today.
The project’s large scope and complex terrain necessitate detailed engineering work, which could impact timelines, he added.
The event was attended by several key officials, including Deputy Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Aidel Lariwoo, and JKR Malaysia Director-General Datuk Wira Roslan Ismail, among others. – DayakDaily
