SIBU, June 2: Most pharmacies here are about to run out of pulse oximeters.

Since a video on the function of the gadget went viral three weeks ago, locals have been sourcing it at local pharmacies.

In the video, a woman believed to be a nurse said there were cases of Covid-19 patients categorised as brought-in-dead to hospitals, and that it was important for the household to own the gadget to measure one’s oxygen saturation level so as to know the health status of a patient.

“People under home quarantine can do self-monitoring for their oxygen saturation level. If the oxygen saturation level is below 90, the patient must be rushed to the hospital for treatment,” she was quoted as saying in the video.

According to a news report, the Covid-19 pandemic has caused an increase in the use of pulse oximeters.

An educationist surnamed Ting said many of her friends were left disappointed when told by the pharmacy that they had sold out the items, which cost between RM39 to RM59.

“They were told that new stock will arrive in two weeks’ time,” she said.

Ting, who bought the item from an online platform about two weeks’ ago at only RM32, instead advised her friends to buy the item online as well. — DayakDaily
