PADAWAN, Aug 13: Several villages in Padawan that rely on gravity-fed water systems are facing water shortages due to the prolonged dry spell.
Among the affected villages are Kampung Sitang, Kampung Biya Nusaraya, Kampung Biya Parang and Kampung Peremas, where water wells have dried up, affecting about 500 villagers.
The situation has prompted the respective village chiefs to seek assistance from the Welfare Department to supply bottled water.
The requests were channelled through the Padawan Sub-district Office, led by Sarawak Administrative Officer (SAO) Julius Scott Sapong and his assistant, Paul Akin.
So far, Kampung Biya Nusaraya and Kampung Biya Parang have received bottled water from the Welfare Department.
The villagers expressed their appreciation to the Padawan Sub-district Office and the Welfare Department for their prompt response in addressing their daily water needs.
With the dry spell expected to continue, other villages in upper Padawan, including Kampung Bangau and Kampung Petang, as well as several other communities that depend on gravity-fed water systems, could face similar shortages. — DayakDaily
