PGA confiscated contraband items worth RM21.7mil so far this year

KUCHING, Sept 4: The Sarawak General Operations Force (PGA) has seized some RM21.7 million worth of contraband items such as cigarettes, alcohol, logs andĀ machineries this year.

StateĀ PGA commander SAC Datuk Khaw Kok Chin saidĀ RM20,719,650Ā worth in confiscated items were made through its Ops Libas, followed by Ops Batas (RM851,232) and OpsĀ AwasĀ (RM160,000) carried out statewide.


Its operations also saw the arrest of 232 foreigners and 72 Malaysians.

In their latest operation today, at 6.30am, PGA seized contraband cigarettes worth RM411,200 from a house atĀ Jalan Kwong Lee Bank, Pending Heights.

“Based on our two weeks surveillance and information gathered, the premise was believed to have been used as a transit point to store these items.Ā After one and half hour of waiting and no one showed up at the house, we decided to raid.

ā€œWe found 2,090 cartons of cigarettes from various brands in 40 boxes. We also seized a green Perodua Axia car that was parked in the porch,” he told a press conference at PGA headquarters here, today.

The police also believed that the cigarettes were aimed for the local Kuching market and possibly border areas around the city, he added.
