KUHCING, July 22: Petrosains, the social impact arm of PETRONAS, has received its first national recognition at the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards 2026, winning the Company of the Year (Science Centre) – Education, Sustainability & Transformation Award for its commitment to making science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education more accessible, inclusive and meaningful for communities across Malaysia.
According to a media release today, the award was presented by Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Lim Hui Ying in recognition of Petrosains’ efforts to bridge education gaps and bring science learning closer to underserved, indigenous and rural communities nationwide.
Petrosains was recognised for its wide-ranging STEM outreach and engagement initiatives, including its flagship Petrosains Discovery Centre, PlaySmart Satellite Centres in Johor Bahru, Kuantan, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, PlayFarm, Discovery Rover outreach programmes, Tech4All initiative and various nationwide community engagements.
Through these platforms, Petrosains continues to create opportunities for young Malaysians to explore science beyond traditional classrooms while encouraging curiosity, creativity and problem-solving skills.
Beyond developing future STEM talent, Petrosains has placed strong emphasis on inclusivity by designing learning experiences for diverse groups, including Orang Asli and Peribumi communities, neurodivergent learners, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and children from underserved backgrounds.
The recognition comes as the Sustainability & CSR Malaysia Awards celebrates its 11th year as a leading platform honouring organisations that demonstrate excellence in sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), while contributing towards Malaysia’s socio-economic development.
Petrosains chief executive officer Ezarisma Azni Mohamad said the award reflects the collective commitment of its employees, educators, partners, volunteers and communities in advancing science education for all.
“We are deeply honoured to receive this recognition, which reflects the collective efforts of our employees, educators, partners, volunteers and communities who share our belief that science should be accessible to everyone.
“As the social impact arm of PETRONAS, we remain committed to advancing education, sustainability and social impact by empowering communities through STEM learning and creating opportunities for future generations,” he said.
In addition to expanding access to STEM education, Petrosains continues to integrate sustainability principles into its programmes and learning experiences. Recent efforts include the revitalisation of Petrosains PlayFarm in Johor Bahru and enhancements to the Sustainability Gallery at the Discovery Centre, where interactive experiences encourage visitors to better understand sustainable living practices.
Petrosains also promotes environmental responsibility through initiatives such as 3E@Schools and Waste to Product, which introduces circular economy concepts by transforming used industrial materials into practical items including laptop sleeves and pouches.
The award further highlights Petrosains’ contribution towards supporting PETRONAS’ aspiration for a Just Transition, where sustainability encompasses not only environmental protection but also empowering people, strengthening communities and creating inclusive opportunities.
As Petrosains continues its mission of igniting curiosity, inspiring change and transforming lives through science, the organisation remains committed to building a future where STEM education is within reach of all Malaysians, regardless of geography, background or circumstance. — DayakDaily
