KUCHING, Jul 21: A total of 82 local vendors have been honoured by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and the Sarawak government for their contributions and excellence in strengthening the State’s oil and gas service equipment (OGSE) ecosystem in 2025.
“Their achievements demonstrate how Sarawak vendors are continuously strengthening their technical capabilities, operational excellence and ability to create greater value across the ecosystem,” said Malaysia Petroleum Management (MPM) senior vice president, Datuk Ir Bacho Pilong during the commemoration of Sarawak OGSE Vendor 2025.
Among those recognised were companies awarded medium-to-complex scope contracts across upstream, midstream, and offshore support services, demonstrating their growing capability to undertake higher-value and more technically demanding work within the industry.
This progress is further demonstrated by the active participation and competitiveness of 715 registered companies in Sarawak.
Out of the 82 honoured local vendors, two companies received the New Frontier Awards for venturing into higher-value and emerging areas of the oil and gas (O&G) value chain: Justrite Construction & Services Sdn Bhd (Justrite Construction & Services) and Hurricane Geo Inspection Survey Sdn Bhd (HGIS).
Justrite Construction & Services is the first Sarawak vendor awarded for the Supply and Maintenance of Mooring Buoy System, which involves a medium- to high-complexity offshore maintenance scope.
HGIS is the first Sarawak vendor awarded the Analog & Digital Site Survey scope, involving highly specialised offshore site investigation services.
Meanwhile, also speaking at the event, Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan thanked PETRONAS for its long-standing commitment to nurturing local participation and strengthening industrial capabilities in Sarawak.
“Between 2014 and March 2026, contracts valued at RM49.31 billion was awarded to Sarawakian vendors and approximately 60 per cent of these contracts is engaged within Sarawak, ensuring that substantial portions of the value generated remain within our State’s economy,” said Awang Tengah at a hotel in Kuching today.
He added that to realise Sarawak’s ambitions, the State requires local companies that possess technical competence and the ability to innovate, embrace new technologies, and deliver solutions that meet international standards.
The vendors were presented with a commemorative plaque by PETRONAS Vice President of Group Procurement, Rashidah Alias, in the presence of Awang Tengah and Bacho.
Since 1975, PETRONAS has invested RM325 billion in upstream and RM24.5 billion in midstream and downstream segments. It has also poured RM650 million into education and human capital development over the past decade, benefitting over 980,000 Sarawakians.
In strengthening local capabilities, PETRONAS has facilitated roughly RM35 million in financing for 51 local OGSE vendors via its Vendor Finance Programme (VFP) which was established in 2018 and Special OGSE (SOS) Financing Programme, established in 2022.
Its long-standing Vendor Development Programme (VDP) has nurtured Bumiputera vendors since 1993, with 39 Sarawak-based companies participating and 29 graduating. Another 15 high-performing vendors are enrolled in its VDPx expansion scheme.
Meanwhile, the PETRONAS Supplier Support Programme, launched in 2024 with JC3, Bursa Malaysia, and UNGCMYB—has trained 173 local vendors in sustainability reporting, carbon management, and green financing. – DayakDaily
