KUCHING, July 21: A three-year-old child has been found dead while three adults remain missing after a boat believed to be carrying four people capsized in Marudi.
According to a report from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a call was received at 12.30pm, and firefighters from the Marudi station were deployed.
It was noted that all four victims are from Kampung Long Selatong and were believed to have been travelling by boat to the Long San Health Clinic on Monday (July 20). However, they failed to return home and could not be contacted by phone.
Villagers later discovered a capsized boat, believed to be the one carrying the victims, in the Seperot River.
Information received from the Long Lama police station stated that the body of the child was found by members of the public and has since been taken to the Long San Health Clinic. The three adult victims are two men in their 30s and 40s and a woman in her 30s.
Following discussions with the police, it was decided that the search and rescue (SAR) team will depart for the location tomorrow (July 22) to begin the operation.
The journey to the site is expected to take approximately five hours via logging roads before reaching the operation area. — DayakDaily
