KUCHING, July 7: Pertubuhan Kebajikan Islam Malaysia (Perkim) Sarawak will host a charity run on Sept 15, with the aim to raise funds for Laila Stroke Rehabilitation Centre here.
According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), Deputy Minister of Economy Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib said the funds raised during the ‘Perkim Sarawak Charity Half Marathon’ will provide physiotherapy so that stroke survivors can receive a regular physiotherapy routine, helping them avoid feeling helpless.
“When someone experiences a stroke, their muscles tend to tighten, and we do not want the elderly who go through this to feel hopeless and unable to improve themselves.
“At the Stroke Centre, we also ensure that the support extends beyond physiotherapy by promoting understanding among the caregivers of stroke patients and their families so they know how to provide the best encouragement,” she said during a press conference held at Waterfront Hotel today.
Hanifah, who is also Perkim Sarawak chairperson, added that the Laila Stroke Rehabilitation Centre provides affordable follow-up physiotherapy treatments for stroke patients, ensuring that those who are less fortunate can receive follow-up physiotherapy in a comfortable environment.
The second edition of the Perkim Sarawak Charity Half Marathon will take place at the Sarawak State Library compound, featuring a 21km half marathon and a 10km run, as well as the fun run category with 5km and 3km distances.
The first-place winners in the Men’s and Women’s 21km categories will each take home a cash prize of RM2,000, while the winners of the Men’s and Women’s 10km categories will each receive a cash prize of RM1,000.
This event is open to all, with a target of 2,000 participants this year.
