KUCHING, July11: The waterfront projects for Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh have been approved and are currently waiting to be implemented.

According to Tupong assemblyman Dato Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, the projects, estimated to cost RM44 million, has been included in the list of projects approved by the Economic Planning Unit (EPU).

Fazzrudin, who is also Chief Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, added that an initial allocation of RM20 million has been approved to enable preliminary works to begin

“The project is already on the Premier’s approved list and, hopefully, I will continue to work closely with the EPU to expedite its implementation. RM20 million has already been approved by the Premier, and once that allocation is utilised, we will seek additional funding to realise the entire RM44 million riverfront project.

“I ask the villagers to be patient. We will do our best to speed up its implementation,” he said when officiating at the Regatta Sejijak 2026 in here today, as reported by TVS.

Meanwhile, he said that the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Tupong branch is also pursuing another initiative to return land in Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh to residents.

He said the proposal has received the Premier’s approval, while the Sarawak Land and Survey Department has identified the land and is in the process of reacquiring it before handing it back to the villages for use as residential lots or for other community needs.

“Discussions on how the land will be used should only take place after the reacquisition process is completed. There is no need to rush into discussions now. We should allow the government to complete the land acquisition process first.

“Once that is done, we can sit down together and decide how the land should be developed. The Land and Survey Department has informed me that the project is already on its list, and once implementation of the land acquisition begins, they will notify us. At that point, we will discuss development plans for Kampung Sejijak and Kampung Paroh,” he said. — DayakDaily
