KUCHING, May 8: Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong expressed her sadness to learn that only halal food is allowed in the microwave of the palliative ward at a public hospital in Kuching.
She alleged that when she approached the public hospital management about this matter, they refused to entertain her and insisted on such practice.
“When I learned such an insensitive practice took place, my office immediately liaised with personnel from the hospital management but they refused to entertain and insisted to continue with such practice.
“The person whom we spoke to claimed that that is the policy of the hospital and nothing can be done,” said Yong when debating the TYT’s speech in the august House here today.
She said she is obligated to raise this issue in the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUS) in hope that Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg could stop such practices immediately.
Sympathising with the palliative care patients who are nearing death, she believed that they should be allowed to enjoy whatever food they crave, especially in Sarawak that takes pride in the harmony among people of multiple races and religions.
“If the hospital management has no budget to purchase additional microwaves, do let me know. I will send over the required number, despite me having zero allocation from the GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) government,” she added. — DayakDaily
