KUCHING, July 11: Several roads will be closed in Kuching for the assembly and procession in conjunction with the 60th-anniversary celebration of Sarawak’s independence at Padang Merdeka.
According to a statement by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), roads will be closed for the rehearsal from July 18-20 from 6.30am until the end of rehearsal.
On July 22 (the day of the programme), roads will be closed starting from 5.30am and will be reopened once the programme ends.
The affected roads are:
- Jalan Main Bazaar intersection/ Lebuh Wayang
- Jalan Gambier/Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg/Jalan Main Bazaar
- Jalan Lebuh Wayang/Jalan Wawasan
- RTM traffic light/Jalan Satok/Tun Abang Haji Openg to Padang Merdeka
- St Mary’s traffic light/Jalan McDougall to Padang Merdeka
Members of the public are advised not to park their vehicles on the road shoulders that can cause traffic congestion.
It added that those who wish to join the celebration should park their cars in the following areas:
- Reservoir Park
- Taman Budaya
- Green Hill
- Bangunan Saujana
- Top Spot
- Civic Centre
“Members of the public are advised to plan their journeys on the day, and should they have matters to attend to in the city or wish to witness the programme, they should adhere to the traffic management signs and instructions from the officers on duty.
