PBK: Don’t forget the needy and unfortunate while celebrating CNY

KUCHING, Feb 10: Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) reminds the public to extend the joy of celebrating Chinese New Year (CNY) to the less fortunate and those in need.

According to its president Voon Lee Shan in a press statement today, with no sign of Covid-19 slowing down, coupled with the economic slowdown caused by the pandemic, this year’s celebration is expected to be much less merry, but this should not impede it.

“While we are celebrating and have reasons to be happy and joy making (sic), we also should not forget that there are many poor people, especially those in the rural areas, be they our own Chinese people, Dayaks and Malays, who are poor and hungry with no or little food to enjoy this auspicious festival with us.

“Your generosity may be little, but, to them, it will be very meaningful. It is not the amount or value of goodies you give to them that matters, but it is your heart and your love for them that matters. After all, they are all like us, created by God and are children of God,” he said.

Voon pointed out that one such significance of celebrating CNY is because of reunion, as well as mending broken family relationships and friendships.

Therefore, he said, CNY should be taken as an opportunity to create stronger relationships with each other, relatives and friends, and at the same time, serve as a reminder in this multi-racial, multi-religious and multi-cultural society, to make new friends with people of other races in Sarawak.

“All of us need each (other) to survive and to move forward in this land, and the Chinese, have lived harmoniously with the other races, and should create a stronger bond with them,” he added. — DayakDaily
