KUCHING, June 18: Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) must uphold inclusivity and listen to the voices of its grassroots members if it is to remain relevant and true to the spirit of Dayakism, the party’s former youth chief, Rapelson Richard Hamit advises.

In a statement today, he stressed that the voices and views of any member, former leader, and the Dayak community in general should not be sidelined. He also explained that this party exists as a result of the aspirations of the Dayak people.

“It is the moral and political responsibility of every Dayak individual, including former PBDS leaders, to voice their views in order to strengthen the direction and struggle of the nation,” he said.

He further called on the party to uphold democratic values and Dayak principles of deliberation and unity.

“PBDS does not reject the need for organisational discipline and order, but at the same time, we need to celebrate openness and appreciate constructive views, especially when it relates to the future and unity of the Dayak community,” he added.

Rapelson also noted that the PBDS is expected to hold its triennial delegates conference (TDC) next month, during which the legal position of the party’s president and the mandate will be determined.

He hoped that the Supreme Council and delegates would vote wisely on the TDC and choose leadership that can steer the party and the Dayak community forward to face the challenges and development of the Dayak community in modern era politics. – DayakDaily
