KUCHING, Feb 14: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is set to reinforce its long-standing leadership structure, ensuring that branch leadership aligns with the party’s Bumiputera and Pesaka wings to maintain harmony and unity.
Outgoing Youth chief Miro Simuh said a motion to formalise this practice will be debated at the party’s general assembly tomorrow (Feb 15), aiming to enshrine it in the party’s constitution.
“If a branch belongs to the Bumiputera Wing, its leadership positions—including Chief, Women’s Chief, and Youth Chief—should also come from the same wing.
“This has been the practice across most branches, and we must not disrupt it,” he emphasised in his speech at the party’s 16th Triennial General Meeting (TGM) of the Youth and Women’s Wing, held at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today.
Miro explained that this foundation of unity is institutionalised in PBB’s structure, with the formation of the Bumiputera Wing and Pesaka Wing to ensure balanced representation.
The Malay, Melanau and Kedayan are grouped under the Bumiputera Wing, while the Dayak communities, including Iban, Bidayuh, and Orang Ulu, are under the Pesaka Wing.
This principle extends to the composition of the party’s Supreme Council, Youth, and Women’s wings, ensuring fair representation from both groups.
“This makes PBB the only party designed in such a way to uphold consensus and, ultimately, strengthen its unity.
“Therefore, all 82 PBB branches are divided into Bumiputera and Pesaka Wings,” he elaborated.
Similarly, the key leadership positions within each branch—namely the main body (Induk/Bapa), Youth, and Women’s wings—are based on this composition and consensus.
Also present during the PBB Convention were deputy presidents Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, senior vice president Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, secretary-general Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, and Women chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah. – DayakDaily
