KUCHING, Feb 14: Everything that Sarawak has achieved—from increased income revenue to acquiring MASwings (AirBorneo)—is due to Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu’s (PBB) struggles, says Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
Speaking at the party’s Youth and Women wings assembly at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today, Uggah, who is also PBB deputy president, said that Sarawak is well known as the most politically stable and united region in Malaysia, respected for its racial and religious harmony.
“All this has been achieved as a result of PBB’s struggles all these years. This party has succeeded in developing and uniting the people, not just the Bumiputera but all Sarawakians. This is our success. Thank you, PBB,” he said.
He said that since the party’s establishment in 1973, it has grown from strength to strength thanks to its past and current leaders for their commitment to the party and fairness to all.
Today, he said, PBB stands tall as the strongest political party in Sarawak with 47 out of 82 State constituency seats, and in addition to the other seats held by other Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties, equals to the coalition occupying 80 out of 82 seats.
“Sarawak’s top leaders come from PBB, and at the federal level, PBB’s influence has strengthened with the presence of our leaders in the national Cabinet,” he said.
At the same time, the deputy premier also reminded PBB members that they have a responsibility to ensure the party remains strong and respected in its role as GPS’ backbone in fighting for Sarawak’s rights and progress.
“We cannot be complacent because there are many challenges to be faced in the future, and PBB will face these challenges such as the latest technology and artificial intelligence (AI).
“We must be wary of external and internal elements who are envious of PBB’s power,” he said.
“Whatever obstacles come—storms, lightning, or political waves—we will not be afraid! We will continue to defend PBB and GPS,” he said.
