KUCHING, Sept 24: The upcoming Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) special convention for the Betong zone next month will focus on policies and programmes under Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030), as well as resolutions.
According to Deputy Premier of Sarawak Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas in a statement today, the convention will be held at the Dewan Sukan Tan Sri Datuk Amar Stephen Kalong Ningkan in Betong on Oct 8.
“There will be two main agendas; the first, and very important, is that we want our members in the Division to fully know and understand the policies and programmes under Sarawak’s PCDS 2030 so that they can participate in it.
“This strategy is, after all, to bring Sarawak, including the Betong Division, to a faster and new height of development, progress, and prosperity by the year 2030,” Uggah told the media today following a meet-the-people session at his longhouse, Rh Mendit Unsu, in Penom, Spaoh.
He continued by saying they would present some resolutions and decide on the numbers soon.
“One of which is for our PBB members to remain strong and united in giving their full support to our president and the party leadership.
“We, too, will reflect on our struggles and accomplishments since achieving independence 60 years ago.
“We also want PBB to remain strong, relevant, and to continue as the backbone of the State’s administration,” he noted, adding that he would attend a meeting this Tuesday (Sept 26) in Betong to finalise the convention’s programmes and activities.
Uggah, who is also Bukit Saban PBB branch chairman, highlighted that preparations are in full swing for the upcoming PBB convention.
“Some 1,400 delegates from 14 branches within the Division will be attending the convention, which is being held to celebrate the State’s 60th independence anniversary.
“Our Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, also PBB president, will officiate at the opening ceremony.”
He further stated that the Betong convention would be the second after the one held in Kuching yesterday (Sept 23) and that the PBB convention would be held in two other locations in the State later.
Earlier, Uggah had a dialogue session with the Jubilee Occupation Tickets (JOT) owners from several longhouses in Ulu Paku and Lempaong Anyut in Spaoh.
The JOT was issued in 1953 by the British colonial government to rubber planters in the Division, which would allow them to plant and sell rubber.
Betong MP Dr Richard Rapu; political secretary to the Premier, Roseline Mapong; Betong Land and Survey Department superintendent Moris Nayup; and Divisional engineer Jason Ng joined Uggah at the session. — DayakDaily
