KAPIT, Aug 30: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) N.64 Baleh has welcomed Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi’s move to return to Sarawak politics, saying his experience would benefit the people of Kapit and the State.
Branch chairman Dato Tapah Ata, who is also a former political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, said Nanta’s extensive leadership experience and understanding of both State and federal affairs would be a valuable asset to Kapit.
“We warmly welcome Dato Sri Alexander’s return to Sarawak politics and, in particular, to Kapit.
“With his extensive leadership experience and proven track record, we believe he can contribute even more towards the development and well-being of our people,” he said in a statement today.
He said Nanta’s more prominent role at the State level would allow him to maintain closer engagement with grassroots communities and gain a better understanding of the aspirations and needs of the people in Kapit.
“Being closer to the ground will allow him to touch base more frequently with the constituents, listen to their concerns and continue championing the development needs of Kapit,” he said.
He added that Nanta’s leadership, experience and commitment would help drive further development in Kapit, particularly by ensuring rural communities continued to benefit from Sarawak’s development and progress.
“We are confident that his leadership, experience and commitment will help bring Kapit to greater heights and ensure that our rural communities continue to benefit from Sarawak’s development and progress,” Tapah said.
On Aug 13, Nanta indicated that he will not defend his Kapit parliamentary seat in the next general election (GE16), bringing his nearly 30-year tenure as a Member of Parliament to an end.
Nanta, who is also Works Minister, said he was interested in contesting the proposed new State seat of Melekun, which would be located within the Kapit parliamentary constituency. — DayakDaily
