Participants of cancelled Firefighter’s Run can claim medals

Kuching Firefighter's Run 2020 which was supposed to take place on March 15.

KUCHING, July 7: The organisers of Kuching Firefighter’s Run 1.0 have decided to cancel the inaugural race which had been postponed earlier due to Covid-19.

Participants can claim their medals by submitting their BIB number as proof of participation from July 13 to 17, between 8.30am and 4.30pm at Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 1 office (level 1), Jalan Setia Raja, Kuching, Sarawak.

On March 13, the organisers had initially postponed and rescheduled the March 15 run to another date, set to take place in the next few months.

“We have approximately 1,000 runners who registered for the race. However, due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, particularly on the challenges for the organising committee to control social distancing among participants and safety for everyone, it is decided in the best interest of all parties to cancel the event,” the statement said.

Following Malaysia’s announcement from its movement control order (MCO) to conditional movement control order (CMCO), the cancellation of the run was in line with the government’s policy on controlling the spread.—DayakDaily
