KUCHING, Sept 22: Sarawak’s lawn bowls squad recorded three wins in the round-robin stages at Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) XXI Sarawak 2024 at Sarawak Lawn Bowls Arena in Petra Jaya here today.
The first win was sealed by Nischal Nischolas Bujang and Ahmad Bashirun Ismail who defeated compatriots Urie George and Nur Ummairah Tashirah Michael Reni Martin in the open pairs category with a total score of 19-2.
The second win was delivered by Dayangku Aisah Awang Taha and Hazel Sigang Daud who beat Perak’s Chan Ee Ven and Mohamad Farha Nasarudin by a total of score of 13-3 in the same category.
The third victory was won by Azizie Suip and Rustam Effendy Umar who were up against compatriots Nur’Azreen Azirah Mohamad Azelan and Then Chiew Yen, also in the same category, gaining a total score of 11-6.
Besides the abovementioned pairings, other Sarawak athletes who competed but failed progress to the next stage in the open pairs category were Mahathir Mohammad-Mohamad Shukri Twkino who were defeated by Negeri Sembilan’s Norazian Daud-Mohd Adlan Abu Talib; Haizam Mohd Alli-Abdul Waled Jais who fell to Pahang’s Shamsul Rizal Mohd Noor-Nurul Hidayah Othman; and Urie George-Nur Ummairah Tashirah Michael Reni Martin who were defeated by Negeri Sembilan’s Shahriluzaily Md Rashid-Salmiah Zakaria.
Meanwhile, Sarawak’s Liew Kit Shin was defeated by Kuala Lumpur’s Rajkumar Murugan in the men’s individual category.
The lawn bowls events are scheduled to continue until Saturday (Sept 28) with 19 gold medals up for grabs. — DayakDaily
