KUCHING, Oct 21: Miri police confiscated 20,099 boxes of frozen meat imported without permits from a warehouse in Lopeng, Miri.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS), Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu said the items were seized during a raid conducted on Oct 16 by the police together with personnel from Bukit Aman’s Wildlife Crime Bureau (WCB), Sarawak Islamic Council (JAIS), Miri Veterinary office, and Ministry of Domestic Trade and Living Cost (KPDN) Miri.

“Among the items confiscated include 18,975 boxes of frozen pork, 238 boxes of mutton (Australian), six boxes of chicken meat, and 880 boxes of seafood.

“Additionally, 144 packets of sugar and 880 packets of 1kg cooking oil of various brands were also seized.

“Following further inspection and investigation conducted by the veterinarian and KPDN personnel on the premise, it was found that the premises committed an offence under the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999, which is importing livestock or animal-based products without a valid permit and also under Regulation 3(1) of the Supply Control Regulations 1974,” he said in a statement yesterday (Oct 20).

He said the owner of the business premises was found to be conducting business on controlled goods, namely cooking oil and raw sugar, without a valid license, which is an offence under Order 3(3) of the Trading Regulations (Halal Tarikf) 2011.

He added that all the confiscated items have been handed over to the Veterinary Department, JAIS, Miri Police headquarters (IPD) Miri, and KPDN for further action. — DayakDaily
