Only Kuching logs triple digit cases as Sarawak’s daily total drop to 493; only 12 in critical stage

KUCHING, Oct 25: Kuching is the only district with triple-digit daily cases today as Sarawak logs 493 total infections, a drop from 754 reported yesterday.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) in a statement said, of the total cases, only 12 were classified as in the critical stage.


Of this number, three patients who developed pneumonia but were able to breathe on their own were in Category 3, seven patients in Category 4 needed oxygen supply, while two Category 5 patients needed ventilators to breathe.

Meanwhile, the remaining 481 new cases were in Category 1 (no symptoms) and Category 2 (mild symptoms).

SDMC also disclosed that by district, Kuching took the lead in terms of number with 128 cases, followed by Miri (82), Sibu (60), Bintulu (30), Lawas (26), Mukah (25), Sarikei (16), Kanowit (16), Serian (13), Saratok (12), Betong (11), Pakan (8), Dalat (8), Tanjung Manis (7), Subis (7), Meradong (5), Sri Aman (4), Kapit (4), Pusa (4), Bau (3), Kabong (3), Samarahan (3), Tebedu (3), Telang Usan (3), Asajaya (2), Simunjan (2), Lundu (2), Tatau (2), Song (1), Daro (1), Julau (1) and Selangau (1).

Seven other districts comprising Bukit Mabong, Marudi, Lubok Antu, Matu, Belaga, Beluru and Sebauh did not record any new cases today.

On Covid-19 deaths, 18 new fatalities were reported bringing the death toll in Sarawak to 1,221.

At the same time, SDMC said there were no new clusters declared in Sarawak and two clusters had ended namely Kampung Muara Tebas 2 Cluster in Kuching and Batu 10 Jalan Oya Cluster in Sibu.

With this, there are a total of 36 active clusters in Sarawak presently. — DayakDaily
