Over 1,250 flood victims seek shelter across Kuching, Bau, Lundu

KUCHING, March 2: The number of flood evacuees in Kuching, Bau, and Lundu has surged to 1,257 from 355 families housed across seven temporary evacuation centres (PPS) as of 4pm today.

According to a report from the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), four PPS have been activated in Kuching, namely R-Piang Kampung Sinar Budi Baru and SJK (C) Chung Hua Batu Kawa in Batu Kawah, Stapok community hall in Desa Wira, and Taman Malihah community hall in Matang.


These centres currently shelter 1,079 victims from 313 households, including Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Desa Wira, Taman Malihah, and Kampung Rantau Panjang.

Taman Malihah has reported the highest number of victims, totalling 642 individuals from 156 families.

In Bau, two PPS have been activated at Kampung Segong community hall and Balai Raya Kampung Senibung, accommodating 91 victims from 21 families affected by floods in Kampung Segong and Kampung Senibong.

In Lundu, 87 victims from 21 households in Kampung Pasir Tengah are currently placed at SK Pasir Tengah. — DayakDaily
