MIRI, June 3: Tragedy struck when the usually cheerful Gawai Dayak festivities were marred by a fatal accident involving three vehicles at Simpang Bekenu along Jalan Pan Borneo on June 1.
According to Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu, the accident, which occurred at around 6.15pm, a Perodua Axia driven by a 33-year-old man, a Toyota Fortuner driven by a 24-year-old man, and an Isuzu Dmax driven by a 22-year-old man.
According to the investigation, the Perodua Axia was heading towards Miri from Bintulu when it attempted to overtake the Isuzu Dmax but failed, resulting in a collision with the oncoming Toyota Fortuner.
The impact forced the Toyota Fortuner into the opposite lane, where it collided with the Isuzu Dmax.
The collision resulted in the death of the Perodua Axia driver, while the drivers and passengers of the other two vehicles sustained minor injuries. — DayakDaily
